I have worked in higher education for over 10 years. I believe that our students deserve more than a "minimally adequate education" in order to become the leaders of tomorrow. I will fight to ensure that our schools are safe, funded, and equitable. I will fight to make sure that we attract and retain teachers by giving them the tools that they need to succeed, including pay increases.
The cost of living in Greenville is on the rise, and wages have not kept up. I will work to increase our minimum wage to be high enough to actually live on. The average two bedroom apartment in South Carolina requires an hourly pay of $15.83, but many of our citizens earn the minimum wage of $7.25. I believe that people who work hard should be able to support their families without having to struggle.
None of us are guaranteed health tomorrow. Too many families struggle to afford the care that they need. I believe that access to healthcare is a right, not a privilege. I will fight to expand and protect Medicaid. I will fight to keep pre-existing conditions covered and keep that coverage affordable.
