Meet Carrie
Hi y'all! I'm Carrie Counton and I'm running for State House in district 19.
Midwestern born, I arrived in Greenwood, South Carolina in 1999. I'm a proud graduate of Lander University, class of 2003, where I majored in management and marketing. I later went on to earn my MBA. I was raised with a strong work ethic and sense of service to one's country. My dad bravely served in the Vietnam War before leaving the military to work in advertising while my mom devoted herself to raising me and my brother.
I met my husband, Nate, while buying a car. No, he was not my salesman. We have been happily married since 2005.
I have spent the last 10 years working in higher education. I care deeply about my students, many of whom are adults seeking better opportunities. It is with them, and every student, in mind that I have made education a cornerstone of my campaign.
Last year, my husband and I sold our home in Five Forks. We wanted our next home to be closer to downtown, the fantastic Greenville food scene, and the Swamp Rabbit Trail. I also needed more space for our three rescue cats. We landed on Cedar Vale and I was smitten. We bought a house in an area that gives us proximity to all of the action, but retains its quiet, family-friendly atmosphere.
Like many of the district 19 residents, I like to keep active. I enjoy walking my neighborhood, tennis, and reading. I am also a big supporter of animal rescue and have fostered several kittens over the years.
This district is my home. I may be new to politics, but I have a lifelong appreciation and admiration for our Bill of Rights. I saw a need for a fresh perspective, and with your help, I will rise to the challenge. I still believe in the American Dream, but I know that it is not possible without strong communities and teamwork. Let's work together to make district 19 the home that our children deserve.
